With the media in an uproar over her latest gaffe, Senator Clinton herself today addressed the statement she had made when meeting with a group in West Virginia.
"When I said take him out, I obviously meant that they should take Mr. Obama out and show him the town," Clinton said, "Stop treating him like an outsider and let him get to know the hard working, white Americans I hold so dear to my heart. Our party is strongly united to elect a Democrat as the next President of the United States. The misunderstanding is extremely unfortunate."
But those in attendance questioned her take on the semantics of the speech.
"Well," William Ray Johnson said, "What she told us was, if I remember correctly - 'Take him out. I gotta get back in there. I need you boys to take care of this for me.' And she had this wild, crazy look in her eyes, y'know?"
The reaction to the statement was particularly strong among those in the liberal blogosphere - the headline of the Daily Kos blaring:
"Shame On You, Senator Clinton. You're a Big Meanie Head!"
Media commentator, Keith Olbermann (not a Clinton supporter) appeared completely outraged, lashing out at Hillary in last night's Countdown commentary:
"You've lied and you've lied and you've lied again and again, Senator Clinton. And we supported you, because you were on OUR team. For years, we completely ignored the facts and defended you and your husband. We blindly damned the opposition again and again for even DARING to question the obvious shortcomings you and your husband so frequently and glaringly exhibited.
"Admitting all of this is bizarrely acceptable while maintaining a tone of self-righteous indignation...
"But where did this rampant, unchecked bias get us, Senator Clinton? Most folks NOW turn to the likes of Fox News for their information. Fox News, Ms. Clinton!
"And for this, Ms. Clinton, for this - we can NOT forgive you."
Clinton supporters were quick to line up in defense of the Senator and Democratic nominee who has temporarily suspended her campaign, barring any unforeseen misfortune should befall the frontrunner.
"I take folks out all the time," Charles Rangel told reporters, "I take 'em to see a ballgame, out to dinner. I don't see why they're making such a big fuss. I really don't. And I'm black - so that should put the issue to rest. That's why you're quoting me, right - cuz I'm black?"
The Obama campaign has yet to officially react to the gaffe - but senior aides anonymously report that Hillary is indeed a horrible monster.
